Your hand in mine

Loving this new song by Liam Frost featuring Martha Wainwright, "Your hand in mine." You can catch a clip of the song on his myspace. Maybe it's because it humorously appeals to the Catholic in me as my favourite line reads "when I'm good, I'm only good at sinning."

Anything to avoid report card comments...

Behold the latest collection of recently read books!

1. Song Yet Sung by James McBride. This book is set in Maryland during slavery. It focuses on a hodge podge of characters, slave owners, traders, catchers and runaway slaves. I'm not quite done it but I've been flying through it since Friday. If you liked the Book of Negroes, this would be another good read for you. It's got a more fluid narrative with a hint of the supernatural.

2. The Maze Runner by James Dashner. This is a YA dystopian novel with fast-paced action and more questions than it answers. The main character, a teenage boy name Thomas, wakes up in the middle of a maze with no memory of his former life. He finds himself in a group of other boys who have spent two years unsuccessfully trying to get out of the maze and away from the monsters in it. If you liked "The Hunger Games" or "City of Ember" this will be a satisfying quick read.

3. Angus Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison. This is Bridget Jones for teenage girls and a million times funnier. Plus there are currently ten books in the series. The perfect airplane/beach book.

it's a love, hate relationship Martha

Martha Stewart tends to inspire extremes in people. You either love her or you hate her. I fall into the latter group of people and would watch her show only if at the end of each episode, audience members got to throw the food at her.

At least, that's how I thought I felt until I bought a cookbook of her's this weekend. In two days, I've made 4 recipes and as much as I hate to admit it, they're freaking delicious. Garlic and thyme marinated steaks on the barbecue. Horseradish mashed potatoes. Cucumber and lemon salad. Sundried tomato goat cheese spread.

I blame this woman for my inevitable fruitless attempts to lose weight. But seriously with food like this, who cares!
